THE LAST REFUGE OF THE INCAS
Description:
Traveling 2 miles above the Apurimac River, one finds the impressive city of Choquequirao. Hiram Bingham contracted a group of native people to guide and accompany him during his adventure in the mountains. This was how he discovered Machupicchu, the magnificent constructions on each face of the mountains strategically located to see the canyon of the Apurimac hidden in the mountains. The archeological site has been restored by COPESCO, the government entity responsible for tourism in Peru. In the route to Choquequirao the climate is varied from the warm interandina zone to the “eyebrow” of the jungle, a high tropical zone.

Itinerary:
Meet the night before with the guide
FIRST DAY : CUSCO – CACHORA – CHIQUISCA.
Pick up at hotels very early in the morning.
From there we travel via bus to our point of departure Cachora. In the course of the trip we can observe the fertile tropical valleys of the Apurimac River. We visit the archeological sites of: Saiwite and Tarawasi. After three and a half hours of traveling we arrive at our destination of Cachora where we begin the hike. In our journey we can see the flora and fauna and greenness of the canyon of the Apurimac. We arrive at Capulilloc to descend from there to Chiquisca, the location of our first campsite. |

SECOND DAY : CHIQUISCA – CHOQUEQUIRAO.
Breakfast 5:30 a.m.-6:00 a.m.
We start our hike after a substantial breakfast and then arrive at Playa Rosalina. We take a brief break and from there we begin the climb. We continue with our journey, arriving at Marampata for lunch. We arrive at Choquequirao, location of our second campsite, in the afternoon where we will have the afternoon free to visit the archeological site of Choquequirao. |
THIRD DAY : CHOQUEQUIRAO VISITA – MARAMPATA.
Breakfast 6:00 a.m.
After breakfast we can visit the archeological site to Choquequirao for two hours and then you will have free time to walk in the site and to take photos. Then at noon we will return to Marampata where we will eat lunch and enjoy the view. There we spend the third night camping. |

FOURTH DAY : MARAMPATA – CHIQUISCA.
Breakfast 6:30 a.m.
After breakfast, we begin the journey, descending through marvelous vegetation, flora and fauna, arriving at Santa Rosa where we will have a break and then continue the descent until arriving at Playa Rosalina, where we will enjoy lunch and a break. After a small ascent of one hour we arrive at Chiquisca the campsite for our fourth night. |
FIFTH DAY : CHIQUISCA – CACHORA – CUSCO.
Breakfast 6:00 a.m.
After breakfast we continue with our journey ascending until Capulilloc. In the course of the journey we can see the countryside and possible some condors, birds and different varieties of plants. We arrive at Cachora where our bus will be waiting to transport us to Cusco, where we will arrive around 7:00 p.m. to transport passengers to their respective hotels. |
